Our History

New Zealand

Our kaea (leader), Tracey, was born in Northland, New Zealand. Although Tracey's family moved to America when she was young, her mother continued to teach the family the Māori language and traditional Māori song and dance.

Tracey took all this knowledge and experience and formed the Kapa Haka group, Māori Mo Ake Tonu in 2000.

Māori Mo Ake Tonu has many members from all over the Bay Area and encourages new members. Whether you love Māori or polynesian dancing, New Zealand, or would like to learn something new, we would love to have you in our group.
